Medical experts say he is at risk for blindness and stroke, among other physical calamities. Blaine will not eat or sleep during the stunt and has the ability to lower himself to interact with spectators.
April 30, 2008, Chicago Blaine sets a world record for holding his breath for 17 minutes on the The Oprah Winfrey Show. Physical Toll: Extreme stomach pain, but no injury. Difficulty: 9"It was overwhelmingly intense. I felt my heart suffering, my lungs suffering. The urge to breathe was overwhelming."
April 1999, New YorkSpends 7 days in a transparent coffin with 6 inches of head room. Physical Toll: Emerged hungry but unharmed.Difficulty: 2.5"Your muscles do start to atrophy, and they are digesting themselves."
November 2000, New YorkEndures 62 hours standing encased in an ice block. Physical Toll: Lack of sleep caused hallucinations, but no injuries.Difficulty: 10"I had to stand in one spot completely still because you can't lean into the ice — you'd get frostbite."
May 2002, New York Stands 34 hours atop a 22-in. circular platform 100 feet off the ground in Bryant Park. Physical Toll: Landed safely on cardboard and blankets after jumping off.Difficulty: 7"The hardest thing was sleep deprivation. You start to hallucinate, and I began to see all the buildings behind me as lion's heads."
