The sports star will not participate in Sylvester Stallone’s boxing reality show

It was an invitation of a lifetime for Indian boxing star Vijender Singh — to star in a popular international boxing reality show, The Contenders, once hosted by Hollywood superstar Sylvester Stallone, who’s also its executive producer.

However, Vijender, who won a bronze medal for India in the Beijing Olympics, will say ‘no’ to the offer. He says, “The show, I am told, is for professional boxers. And I am not planning to become a professional boxer at the moment. I will continue to be an amateur boxer. I would love to associate myself with the show at a later time in future.”

The boxing star says he’s concentrating more on the international tournaments coming up in the next couple of months. “I am representing India in these tournaments. I decided that these tournaments should have precedence over any reality show,” says Vijender.

Sources say the producers of the show had planned a special series with a few boxers from Asia, with Vijender being one of the boxers. Stallone’s production company is, however, still unaware of Vijender’s decision. Vijender says he would call them up and also send a letter by the end of next week declining the offer.
