Globalisation has hit everyone, from gastronomy to culture and now it is fashion, which is going stylishly global. This statement has come true time and again. Like when French fashion designer Jean Paul Gaultier's last haute couture line drew inspiration from the prince of Rajasthan, Hermes, too, had some visible Indian influence this Spring/Summer. Even in India, Suneet Varma made his model strut down on a ramp in a kimono dresses. Roman gladiators, too, have become hotter this season, courtesy Jean Paul Gaultier, Balenciaga and Jimmy Choo. The Grecian gowns too can be seen on red carpets worn by celebrities around the world. So, now, to see a person clad in Indian Jodhpur wearing Roman gladiator sandals and Japanese kimono top, wouldn't be much of a surprise. And here is a look at few items that make fashionistas truly global this season.
Gladiator Sandal
While Gladiators have been around for a while but this time its seen everywhere from runway shows to celebrity spotting. They come in various styles like heels, flats, and ankle lengths, mid-calf to knee-high sandals. Celebrities around the world can be seen strutting their Dior, and Jimmy Choo gladiator sandals. According to Elle America 'Gladiator Sandal Trend,' "the stiletto suddenly feels like yesterday's news". Even in Paharganj there are few shops that sell some cool styles of gladiators in dirt-cheap prices.
Toga dresses or Greek gowns
Grecian gowns and Toga dresses are getting the temperatures soaring high, as this summer: this is the perfect partnership of high-fashion, femininity and style. It is the time to go Grecian, with Greek gowns and Toga dresses, which are becoming red carpet staple of many celebrities. The trend first emerged on the runways in 2007. the elegant Grecian maxi gowns of Rana Gill are also pretty popular amongst many fashionistas. According to Net-A-Porter, "Grecian looks have returned in a myriad of mythical guises." Roman Gladiators can be the perfect accompaniment to the elegant goddess dress.
Kimono top
Japanese style and culture are growing sources of inspiration for many fashion designers around the world including Indians. Re-styled traditional Japanese kimonos have appeared on runways in India and abroad. Alexander Mcqueen eastern-inspired style, such as the belt and shoulder pads, was reminiscent of ancient Samurai warriors with western touches. Also the Obi belts that are used to tie the kimono up above the waist are also rage with ladies.
Kaftan
Kaftans are inunri everywhere in the world. They are worn on top of bikinis and regarded as resort wear. It has overpowered the sarong to become the mainstay of the holiday wardrobe.
Designers like Roberto Cavalli have made these Kaftans ethnic exotic wear, tweaking it a bit to make it suitable for westerners fashion sensibility.
Jodhpur pants
The tapering silhonette of the Judhpur pants has become many people's favourite. It was worn initially by polo players and nme is worn by both men and women. loose till the knee, these pants taper chivn to ankles and give a very unconventional yet suave look to your body. Designers like Balenciaga and Hermes have Jodhpurs in their recent collections.
Keffiyeh
Palestinians wear it and many call it as Yaseer Arafat look. These 'kefflyeh scarves' are worn by many celebrities and has become a new accessory obsession. The hipping of these scarves started with Balenciaga designer Nicolas Ghesquiere, who re- worked the plain keffiyeh into multi-coloured, chain and coin dripping, multi-ethnic inspired scarves for his 2007 collection.
