Business - JP Morgan appoints Aziz as Chief Economist in India

MUMBAI: Financial services firm JP Morgan today announced the appointment of Jahangir Aziz as Chief Economist for its India operations.


Aziz will be responsible for developing the firm's strategic positions on macroeconomic and public policy, a press release issued here stated.

He was previously the Principal Economic Advisor in the Ministry of Finance and was involved in the Government's economic policy-making process, especially in the areas of monetary policy and financial sector reforms.

He was also with the IMF where he spent 14 years, the release said.

"Aziz's appointment will significantly strengthen our Mumbai-based research franchise...he will join our highly-rated research team and enhance the firm's capability to deliver on the targets we have set for our long-term growth strategy for India," JP Morgan India's CEO Kalpana Morparia said.

Aziz will formally join the firm on October 31, the release added.
