Business - Daily Mail denies Independent interest

LONDON (Reuters) - Daily Mail & General Trust has no intention of acquiring the Independent daily newspaper and sister Sunday title from Independent News & Media, a spokesman said on Monday.

The Observer newspaper reported on Sunday that the owner of the Daily Mail paper was considering a bid for the Independent papers. But a spokesman for the Daily Mail group said: "We have no intention of acquiring them."

Independent News said last week its Independent and Independent on Sunday would start sharing some services with other publishers to cut costs and make editorial workflows more efficient.

A spokesman for the group said on Monday these were the only talks taking place.

"The only discussions under way with UK publishers are in connection with shared services," he said.
