Entertainment - India;GEC - Colors inch closer to Star Plus

The general entertainment genre has witnessed some changes in Week 44, according to TAM's weekly data for C&S 4+, Hindi speaking markets. STAR Plus’ channel share has dipped from 27 per cent in Week 43 to 24 per cent in Week 44, but is still No. 1.

This loss in share can be attributed to the dearth of fresh programming on the GECs, resulting from the unresolved dispute between television producers and the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE). STAR Plus was able to shoot only two hours of fresh content and repeats are being aired in most time slots on the channel.

Colors has increased its channel share to 20 per cent in week 44 from 18 per cent in Week 43. Its driver shows Balika Vadhu, Jai Shri Krishna and Bigg Boss remain uninterrupted despite the ongoing dispute, and this may have contributed to its performance.

Zee TV’s share has declined by 2 percentage points – its current channel share is 15 per cent. Sony Entertainment Television remains a distant No. 4, with 8 per cent share, followed by NDTV Imagine and STAR One with 7 per cent share each. Sahara One and 9X are on the same rung with 5 per cent share in Week 44.

Balika Vadhu rules television again, reaching its highest ever TVR of 7.85 during the week. Its average in Week 44 was 5.9. Bidaai, its closest competitor, has also recorded its highest ever TVR of 6.7.

Jai Shri Krishna has seen some loss in viewership. Its current TVR is 4.7. Apart from that, the Top 10 list remains more or less the same, except that most shows have seen a slight decline in viewership.

STAR Plus' Hasee aur Haseena is a new entrant and has garnered a TVR of 3, more than Maayka on Zee TV, which has been on the top TV programmes list for several weeks.
