Entertainment - James Bond's $70.4 mn collections is highest ever for franchise in US

MUMBAI: Secret agent James Bond is again on a hot pursuit. The latest franchise movie Quantum of Solace, starring Daniel Craig, has set US box office on fire.


The movie has raked in $70.4 million in the first three days of release across the US and Canada.



The previous record for a Bond opening in North America was held by Die Another Day, which earned $47.1 million during its first weekend in November 2002 while Casino Royale opened to $40.8 million.


The 22nd Bond movie which was released in UK and India two-week and one-week prior to US release, has already made impact in their respective markets. In India, till Thursday, it has collected Rs 280 million.


The foreign collections total now stands at $251.6 million. With a worldwide haul of $322 million, it is fast approaching the $594 million tally of Casino Royale.
