India - IIM-B No 1 in India;says survey

BANGALORE : Forget Chandrayaan. The Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore is over the moon. And rightly so, for the leading B-school
has just added another feather to its cap.

A recent survey conducted by Eduniversal, a unit of the French consulting firm SMBG, has ranked IIM-B as the number one B-school in India and among the top 27 in the world.

Expressing delight over the news, director Pankaj Chandra said: "It is a testimony to the hard work put in by IIM-B over the past 35 years. This honour has come at the right time and it's a recognition of our indeginous efforts. The credit belongs to all past directors and faculty too." Chandra said the existing programmes make IIM-B the preferred business school for students with global aspirations.

The award was presented at the Eduniversal World Convention at La Sorbonne, Paris, on Tuesday. The survey identified three best institutions within each of the nine Eduniversal geographical zones: Africa, Middle East, Eastern Europe, Western Europe, Latin America, Northern America, Central Asia, Far Eastern Asia and Oceania.

Deans of 1,000 business schools from 153 countries elected IIM-B among the best B-schools in Central Asia, with a recommendation rate of 398 per thousand, followed by IIM-A (379) and IIM-C (321).

The official selection involved a global mapping system meeting the criteria of universality and international reputation. The aim was not necessarily to include the best schools, but the most important schools based on a method of quotas that gave the institutes opportunity to measure their performance, evolution and durability both within their zone of influence and internationally.
