Accused assaulted and gagged the 15-yr-old before raping her for almost 2 hrs at her home, say cops
As many as 12 youths assaulted a 15-year-old girl, gagged her and took turns to rape her for two hours on Diwali night in a village near Kharar, police said on Wednesday.
The incident took place at the girl's rented accommodation in Bhagomajra Bairampur village on October 28 when the girl's parents were not at home, officers said. Her elder sisters and an aunt were present in the house and were held hostage in the adjoining room as they accused raped the minor, they added.
Kharar Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Raj Balwinder Singh Marar said the 12 accused, all in their early 20s, had been booked.
Marar, who conducted an inquiry following directions from the Mohali Superintendent of Police (Headquarters) before whom the victim appeared on Monday, said the girl was washing dishes in the courtyard around 8.30 pm when two village youths scaled the gate and caught hold of her. They allegedly threatened her aunt and the sisters against raising an alarm and asked them to remain inside a room. The victim told the DSP that the two were then joined by 10 others with muffled faces and they dragged her to another room and pushed a cloth inside her mouth. As she put up resistance, the girl said, the accused assaulted her and then raped her repeatedly for almost two hours till she fell unconscious.
On the complaint of the girl, who named two of the youths as Kamal and Titu Fateh Singh, the Kharar police have registered a case under Sections 376 (G), 452, 148 and 149 of the IPC against the 12. Though the DSP confirmed that no arrest had been made so far, sources said the police had rounded up a couple of youths.
The victim's medical examination was conducted at the Kharar Civil Hospital and her vaginal swabs were sent for examination to establish the charges of rape, added the DSP.
According to sources, most of the accused were known to the family and regularly visited them. They said the girl did not come to the police earlier because the village heads were trying to make her reach a compromise with the accused.
