Will launch 3 lines, most of which will be in silver
KOLKATA: Fabindia, a retailer of handloom textiles and handcrafted home products, is diversifying into jewellery as part of a larger plan to strengthen its focus in the handicrafts space.
The jewellery range will be mainly in silver and semi-precious stones and will be priced in the range of Rs 100-8,000. Fabindia will also retail fusion jewellery made in different materials such as wood, textiles and leather.
“Fabindia is not looking at traditional gold, silver and kundan jewellery market that is dominated by jewellers. Handcrafted jewellery will be synergistic with our apparel and textile product portfolios, which are sourced from rural artisans,” a source said.
The company has zeroed in on artisans from several states, including Rajasthan,
Nagaland, West Bengal (dokra) and Uttar Pradesh (khurja).
According to the source, there will be three jewellery lines — traditional, contemporary and fun — under its umbrella brand Fabindia.
The products will be retailed through Fabindia’s 87 shop-in-shop stores across the country.
About 70% of Fabindia’s revenues come from its apparel business, with home textiles, body care products and organic food categories contributing to the rest.
The chain diversified into organic foods about four years ago and body care products a couple of years back.
