NEW DELHI: In a bonanza to over 3.5-lakh postmen in rural areas, referred to as Grameen Dak Sewaks, the government has decided to allow their children admission in the Central schools (Kendriya Vidyalayas) on a priority basis from the next academic year.
These students will be extended all benefits and facilities on a par with the children of Defence and Central government staff, said an official release.
The decision was taken recently by the Union Human Resource Development Ministry after repeated requests from Union Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology Jyotiraditya Scindia to HRD Minister Arjun Singh.
The government has also decided not to transfer Grameen Dak Sewaks unless requested for. All cases of appointments on compassionate grounds will be expeditiously processed and the applicant will be informed of the decision taken within 60 days.
Apart from ensuring regular uninterrupted supply of stationery to Grameen Dak Sewaks, their stationery allowance has also increased from Rs.10 to Rs.50. The Department of Posts is also considering other steps to provide better working conditions and enhance their level of performance.
