NEW DELHI: What meltdown? Despite adverse market conditions, bike market leader Hero Honda Motors targets record sales in October. It will roll out
seven bikes soon and has beefed up its supplies to sell around 6 lakh bikes and scooters in the festive month.
Hero Honda managing director Pawan Munjal told ET: “In our silver jubilee year, we aim to clock the highest sales in our history. We have pushed up our production and are aiming retail sales of 6-lakh units, which is much higher than our sales in October 2006, when we had sold around 5-lakh units. We expect our October sales to be the highest ever.”
Hero Honda’s October sales target is higher than the annual sales target of Yamaha Motors India, which aims to sell 5 lakh units in 2009. To meet its target, Hero Honda has stretched its 3,000 dealership and sales touch points to maintain maximum inventory and sell each and every bike dispatched by the company. While the company is not making any official launch of its new bikes, it has showcased them to its dealers in Goa last month and has started shipping them from this month on. The dealers are offering impressive discounts to meet their sales targets.
A Delhi-based dealer said: “We have been given the highest ever sales target this festive season. Hero Honda is launching seven new bikes to revv up demand in the market. Most of these bikes are in the high-selling 100 cc and 125 cc segment like Pleasure and Passion, while a new variant of the largest selling 150 cc CBZ will also be available during the festive season. Most of these are sticker upgrades of existing bikes but will come with some exciting refreshments and technical changes.”
Hero Honda has posted one of the highest sales growth this fiscal. While the two-wheeler industry grew 10.75% till August this year, the company has grown 20% to 14.46 lakh units in the same period.
