Business - Time featuring Obama a sellout

New York: The current issue of Time magazine featuring President-elect Barack Obama on the cover continues to fly off store shelves.

Demand for the November 17 commemorative issue, with a $4.99 cover price, has been extraordinarily high since it hit newsstands last Thursday, the news magazine said. There have been three printings of the issue, and retailers were asking for more.

Customers also were flooding the magazine’s subscription line requesting as many as 10 copies each. The issue has sold on the eBay auction website for more than $15.

Thousands of Time customers have bought copies of just the cover’s image, the magazine said on Tuesday. It is a close-up photo of Mr. Obama taken during his victory speech at Chicago’s Grant Park after he was elected the country’s first African-American President.

A commemorative issue of Newsweek will appear on Thursday, the magazine said. The issue’s cover is a photo of Mr. Obama, his wife, Michelle, and daughters, Malia, 10, and Sasha, 7.

An election issue of Newsweek came last Thursday. It featured Mr. Obama and the number 44 on the cover, referring to his number in the line of Presidents. — AP
