Mahendra Singh Dhoni has set tongues wagging yet. The cricketer was spotted having dinner with 27-year-old Telugu movie star Lakshmi Rai in Chennai.
The actress reportedly visited Dhoni’s hotel to join him for dinner a few nights ago, but security officials denied her it. It was only when the Indian captain himself clarified that she was his guest that they let her in.
Though both Dhoni and Rai denied any romantic involvement, Rai confirmed that they have been friends for a while and that they meet whenever he is in town.
Rai, who shot to fame after her performance in Dhaam Dhoom, became friends with Dhoni when he was in Chennai earlier this year for the IPL tournament.
The two met on Rai’s birthday party (May 5) when she learnt that the cricketer was staying in the same hotel she was hosting her party at. An avid cricket fan, she invited him and some others from the team for her party. Sources say that she was impressed by Dhoni’s humility and that they hit it off instantly.
The actress has denied any romantic involvement with Dhoni. A source close to the cricketer said, “He’s never really spoken about Lakshmi Rai in particular. Besides, a lot of women come to meet Dhoni. There’s nothing unusual about this
at all.”
