Bhopal, Dec 28 (IANS) The terrorists who attacked Mumbai last month wanted some jailed militants to be released in exchange of the hostages but the Manmohan Singh government rejected their demand, senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh said Sunday.
Singh, party general secretary and former Madhya Pradesh chief minister, said at a party function in Indore that the Congress-led government deserved praise for the courage it showed in eliminating the terrorists.
Nine terrorists were killed by commandos while one was captured alive after the Nov 26 strike that claimed over 170 lives.
'This is unlike the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party), which has always compromised with terrorism,' he said, referring to the 1999 Kandahar plane hijack when militants were freed in exchange of hostages.
