Sport - ESPN Star wins bid for BCCI's Champions League

ESPN Star Sports (ESS) has won the bid for The Champions League, the international version of the Indian Premier League, according to sources.However, the bid amount was not mentioned. The announcement was expected on Wednesday evening. The Board of Control for Cricket in India had to decide among two bidders, Sony Entertainment Television and ESS, for the official broadcaster of The Champions League. The floor for the bid had been set for $750 million for 10 years for the tournament scheduled for December, according to reports. The Champions League is promoted by BCCI and the cricket boards of Australia and South Africa, and is to feature domestic clubs of various countries in the Twenty20 format. India, Australia and South Africa have confirmed participation. The board is believed to be still trying to get Pakistan and England on board. The finalist of the DLF IPL, or Rajasthan Royals, and Chennai Super Kings will represent India.
