THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala may be dubbed as 'God's own Country', but more than 21,000 people have committed suicide in the state in the last three
years.
"A total of 21,914 suicides have been reported in Kerala in the last three years," Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan told the Assembly on Tuesday.
Of these 5601 cases were reported in 2006, 8962 in 2007 and 7351 until mid-November this year, the minister said.
As a result, the Government has decided to intensify the anti-suicide awareness campaign in the state, he informed the legislators.
